The topik of my work is Oxford
AS you know Oxford is well known not only in the UK but also all over the world
There are a lot of interesting historical sight there
But Oxford is famous for its university too
A lot of young people from different countries study there
I was interested in Oxford and wanted to know about its past and present
So the purpose of my work is studying a historical development of Oxford
My tasks are - to find and study information about Oxford - to introduce the topic to my classmates

- AS you know Oxford is well

- There are a lot of interesting
historical sight there
- But Oxford is famous for
its university too
- A lot of young people from
different countries study there
- I was interested in Oxford
and wanted to know about its past and present
- So the purpose of my work
is studying a historical development of Oxford
- My tasks are - to
find and study information about Oxford - to introduce the topic
to my classmates
- Oxford stands on the bank
of the Thames
- The name «Oxford» means
«Ford for Oxen»(in Russian it means – брод для быков)
- First it was mentioned
in the «Anglo – Saxon Chronicles» in 912
- In England there were many
illiterates even among the clergy in the 10th century
- And so about 1117 was founded
the fist university in the UK to give their clergy more complete education
- For its purpose was chosen
Oxford one of the largest cities of the kingdom
- Aver the time teaching
at this university has become compulsory for the nobility
- Nowadays Oxford university
is a group of independence colleges
- It includes 39 colleges
- More than 18,5 thousand
students study in Oxford
- About a quarter of them
are foreigners
- Women had been admitted
to Oxford university only in 1920s and education was separated
- But in 1970 s the separate
education was abolished
- The students study at 62
departments
- The basic directions are
humanities maths physics social sciences medicine life science and environment
- There are some famous colleges
- One of them is Merton College
a historically significant building
- It was a model for all
other colleges of Oxford
- Magdalen College
is famous for its high bell tower the symbol of the sity
- It is the most luxurious
college in Oxford
- New College is famous for
a chapel and a porch
- The greatness of the university
is always determined by the level of the people who studied there
- A lot of famous people
graduated from Oxford university
- They are Roger Bacon Thomas
More Robert Boyte Oscar Wild Tolkien Lewis Carroll Margaret Thatcher
Indira Gandhi and others
- The most famous is Bill
Clinton
- Oxford is an old sity and
so there are a lot of famous buildings there
- For example Bodleian Library
–one of the largest libraries in the sity
- AShmolean Museum is the
first museum in Tngland open to visitors
- Blenheim Palace is designed
in baroque style
- It is a family estafe of
the Dukes of Marlborough
- The Tower Carfax is situated
in the centre of the sity
- From the Tower you can
see the whole sity
- Studing this topic I used
different sources to find interesting tacts about Oxford
- I think this work will
be interesting for all who study English
- Next year I would like
to continue my work about Oxford university
